SH logo final 2014Introducing our USP (unique selling point) …

We’ve established a large, vibrant and growing network of start-ups, businesses, community groups, individuals, schools and statutory sectors in Redbridge.  We hold regular events to support start-ups and community entrepreneurs and are experts at collaboration and joining-the-dots.  We actively support you to get involved and engaged in community and business life and to benefit from the wealth of resources and skills in the Borough.  We work with you to increase local trade and the sharing economy.

Why we do what we do …

We are a social enterprise,  working in the field of community development using an ‘asset-based’ approach.  We believe that we as a Borough can solve our own problems through the wisdom (Sophia is the Greek word for wisdom), skills and life experience of the people that live and work here.  We want to stop so many start-ups failing in our Borough, to get more local trade happening,  to build up the ‘sharing’ economy, and to encourage businesses to be community-minded/community organisations to be business-minded.

What we do …

Until now we have  been running  the weekly entrepreneurs’ club, the Redbridge Timebank and the Sophia course and a weekly information update of community and business news. We also lead on the Ilford Green Pop Up market. We are a key partner in the Enterprise Desk at Ilford Library, soon to become Hub Central.

From April 2017 we are transitioning to a new business model of income generation as well as funded projects.  We are recruiting for our new membership scheme and are running monthly ticketed business/community networking events instead of the entrepreneurs’ club until September.  (For the next one click here)

We are continuing to run the Timebank and regular skills swap events (next event click here) and weekly information updates which are free.  We have many volunteering opportunities.

From April to September 2017 we  will be running 3 bespoke events on green business, an Independent Retail month event and a young entrepreneurs event, with funding from the Council.

A bit more about us…

We are  an Industrial and Provident Society and launched in Redbridge in August 2013.  See the Team here.  We have received most of our funding so far from Redbridge Council and are now transitioning away from dependence on funding to ensure our longevity.   We sit on the executive committee of the Redbridge Chamber of Commerce and the Seven Kings Business Partnership and have personal and professional links with a wide range of community and business initiatives in Redbridge.
